In 1958, when my older brother, Jon, was born, a neighbor made these cookies for my mother (Joyce Bruneau) and gave her the recipe. I have been baking these since my childhood. Remember Wheaties are NOT corn flakes. It just doesn’t taste right with corn flakes… And don’t over-cook them; they need to be chewy.

2 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
3 c. rolled oats – not quick
3 c. Wheaties cereal

Pre-heat oven to 325°. Cream together shortening and sugars, and then add eggs and vanilla. Add baking powder, baking soda, salt, flour, and oats. Hand-stir the Wheaties into the mixture, carefully, to prevent breakage. Roll into walnut-sized balls, press down lightly, and cook for 13-14 minutes.

I have a similar recipe on my site that goes back to my childhood some 30 years ago. Before I had my mom dig up the recipe, I did a search online and foudn that wheaties cookies come in a wild variety for forms. My recipe includes coconut, and the dough is rolled in the wheaties instead of wheaties in the cookie itself. These cookies you have here look crunchy and delicious.
